Teeling - Wonders of Wood - Virgin Chinkapin Oak
"The first edition of our Wonders of Wood bottlings consists of our single pot still crafted from a recipe of 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley which has been triple distilled in our Dublin distillery and fully matured in virgin chinkapin American white oak casks.
Chinkapin oak is native to Eastern and Central North America with a wide grain and is similar to chestnut oak. When used for the maturation of Irish whiskey it produces a truly different taste experience layering on a distinctive gingerbread spice and banana cake sweetness unique to Irish whiskey.
This Whiskey was awarded the top honour of World’s Best Single Pot Still at the 2022 World Whiskies Awards along with several other awards for its quality since its release.
In partnership with the Tree Council of Ireland we planted an acre of native Irish trees in Glencree in Co. Wicklow when we launched this whiskey. Each bottle of whiskey purchased contributed towards this reforestation of Ireland. Wood is a hugely important resource to both the environment and to Whiskey and so we are delighted to be able to give back through this project and to have our fans and friends to work alongside us to do achieve this. We will continue to work with the Tree Council of Ireland on these sustainability efforts as we launch more releases in the Wonders of Wood series.
